Bird Park KL : Awesome!

4th July 2012

This is the second week of my shortsem. class have been pack although i'm only taking 2 subjects. tiring. but all for a good reason. my lecturers are very kind and friendly, maybe because there is only 13 of us in the class but it gives a good mood when the lecturers are easy going. i hope i won't get on their bad books when they are being very kind.

enough about my shortsem. the reason i'm posting this is to enlighten you all about a certain bird sanctuary situated in KL.

the KL Bird Park : World's Largest Free-flight Walk-in Aviary

the KL Bird Park is situated in jalan cenderawasih. there are a few recognizable landmark near the bird park which is the national monument, national mosque and Tun Abdul Razak memorial. the bird park is open to visitors from 9.00am to 6.00pm daily. the bird park offers many activities that visitors can look forward to. bird photography, hornbill feeding, lories feeding, bird show, free flying birds feeding and many more. keep note that all these activities have different times except for the lories feeding which is from 10.00am to 5.00pm. this place is quite interesting to visit especially for families that want a laid back activity for their quality time with the family.

i myself did not pass up the opportunity to go there. i went with of course my dear fazreen and we had a great time there. except for the prices of the things that are sold there.
can you imagine an ice-cream cup is rm 2.00  each?? outside you can get it for rm 1.00. and a simple hot dog would cost you a total of rm 5.00. that for me is ridiculous. with rm 5.00 we can get a complete lunch.

the entrance ticket costs us rm 25 for each person and that price is only for the ones holding mykad. so for foreigners it costs them around rm 48 if i'm not mistaken. that's a very huge difference isn't it?

the ticket :)

in the bird park the birds roam freely and run around among the visitors. but to touch them would be very difficult as the birds are very shy to human touch. but just looking at the rare birds walking around you is quite interesting enough. peacocks, storks, hornbills, flamingos and many more bird species roam freely. walking and flying around you. it is a sight to behold. we don't find these birds flying around in our backyard do we? fascinating. breathtaking. exciting.  :)
but of course not all birds are outside. some of the birds are also caged and can be only seen at a distance. though it is called free-flight not all the birds can be let out.
the reasoning is simple. imagine they let out eagles around, do you want the eagles to swoop down and snatch your small baby from you simply thinking that your baby is food?
or you or your child walking behind an ostrich and suddenly the ostrich kicks with its huge feet? imagine how that would be. painful. excruciating. maybe fun but definitely humiliating.  ^^ v

roaming peacock
me and faz arrived about 10.45 am and it took us almost 3 hours to completely walk through the entire park. because it is working day, not many locals can be seen at the park. most of the visitors there are international tourists with their kids and families.

that's majestic right?

we walked around fascinated by the various species of birds and occasionally took some rest. the park is quite big. for an old geezer like me, i tire quickly.  :)
one thing we did not do there was to watch the bird show. it was a pity though. it would have been wonderful if we were able to watch the show. apparently, when the show started we were too far away from the amphitheater. so we decided we would not watch the show. sad.

but to make up for that loss, we got to do something far more fascinating. more exciting. awesome! we got to feed the parrots. well, it is not called parrots actually. lories to be exact. but it is situated in the world of parrots. so to make it simple. lets call them parrots.  ^^ v
inside the world of parrots, the exotic birds are flying freely and singing loudly.
to feed them, the park workers will provide some sunflower seeds and a cup of mixed milk and honey. all in the cost of rm 2.00.
to be honest. this is the best activity one could enjoy in this bird park. this sums up our whole day at the park.

let the pictures do the talking.

world of parrots :)
they are free!

this is the world of parrots i was talking about. those red and green ones are called lories. correct me if i'm wrong.  :)
there are a lot of this bird species. they are the dominant ones in the area.

:)
they flew right onto your hand.
she didn't want to do it at first.
and she's enjoying it now  :)

we don't need to do much to get the birds to come. just put the seeds onto our hand and lift up the cup of milk. the birds will automatically come and feed on it. only if they are full then they will not come.  :)
they're totally cute. those birds. sometimes they would fight with each other to get their fair share.

even on someone's head?

other visitors feeding them also  :)

it was a great feeling. to be able to feed these birds. close up. right on your very hand. it is an experience. a memory.

i look like a pirate. cool. ^^ v

hehe. sorry. :)

overall. it was a great experience. our visit to  KL Bird Park : World's Largest Free-flight Walk-in Aviary was a moment to remember. especially when we come with our loved ones. i really hope to come here again. maybe with friends after this. that might be a different story.  :)

we enjoyed.
